Galu Beach is the wide, quiet southern end of Diani, running from about the Kongo River down toward Kinondo. Its broad, flat white sand and shallow reef-protected lagoon make it Diani’s kitesurfing heartland and a favourite of families and couples who want space and calm over the buzz of central Diani — plus it’s home to the sacred Kaya Kinondo forest and some of the coast’s finest resorts and villas.

Where is Galu Beach?
Galu Beach is the southern stretch of the Diani coastline, on Kenya’s South Coast in Kwale County, just south of central Diani beyond the Kongo River. It’s part of the same continuous ~17 km white-sand beach but is wider, less developed and quieter, backed by the Kinondo area and the sacred Kaya Kinondo forest.

The beach & the vibe
Galu has some of the widest, flattest sand on the whole Diani coast and a shallow, reef-sheltered lagoon that turns almost mirror-flat at low tide. The atmosphere is relaxed and spacious — fewer beach vendors and boat operators than the centre — which is exactly why families, couples and kitesurfers gravitate here.

Getting to Galu
Galu is 10–25 minutes by road from Ukunda (Diani) airport and about 1–1.5 hours from Mombasa — see our airport transfers and getting here guides. Because Galu is at the far (southern) end, transfers there can cost a touch more than central Diani.
